EFM; Acceptance

Sat Sep 19, 2009, 5:18 AM
So during many hours of deep semi-comatose state that i use to endure the painful 9 hour shifts that i often stumble upon strange nuggets of truth, this one being the idea of a Meta-culture, it's ups and downs.

As a resident of a small country-esque city and a fur [O rly? we wouldn't have guessed from my gallery] I'm a fairly strange mother fucker, and, largely, i'm cool with that, but i do get the occasional odd glance walking down the main street. This alienating thought led me to good memories of events like midfur where instead of feared or shunned en masse people were more curious, they'd approach us and ask questions, which leads into our topic, Acceptance.

It occured to me that the reason for all of this is freaks, the sheer mass of people in capitals reduces the shock factor associated with the oddities of our society, goths, cosplayers and excentric dressers... as well as asians... damn asians, you're seriously going outside wearing that? Anyway, the point is, as a group we function differently, we accept the minorities and move on, this leads to a kinda depressing state living in cities, never really being able to be part of a large group; but i'll talk of religious cults later. If you were offended by city living you'd move away, but what if that wasn't an option? what if your entire country was one huge behemoth city, spewing skyscrapers into the sky?

Enter Japan

Now Japan... If we believe the internet exclusively exports wierd porn, mechs and kick ass video games.. but that's the thing, it's kinda a study of huge city living, where the fetishes and kinks have had no farming cities to go, omg-wtf-gtfo and been begrudgingly accepted, which leads me to my point....

Metacultures; Good or bad, and why?
